Want to do a type of cakewalk in which the prize is not baked goods but baskets of fresh vegetables?
The King George Farmers Market is the place to do it. The market plans a grand opening and a community appreciation day Saturday.
The event will be held rain or shine and will include demonstrations of old-time arts, as well as food, prizes and presentations from community services.
Farmers will chat with customers, and people will demonstrate how to churn butter or spin wool, make pottery or raise bees.
Representatives from the King George Sheriff's Department will do child fingerprinting, and Fire and Rescue officials will be on hand, along with local master gardeners.
Music will be provided by the Marenje Marimba Ensemble. Signora Bella, a circus performer, will demonstrate slack-rope walking.
Special events are planned 10 a.m.-noon, but the market, which has grown to include 13 vendors, is open 8 a.m.-to 1 p.m.
Participants should bring their own chairs.
The farmers market is held at King George Elementary, at State Routes 3 and 205.
