Eagle Scout Jonathon Whitby began Scouting in 2001.

Whitby earns Eagle Scout rank

Troop 179 Scout earns Eagle rank

Jonathon B. Whitby of Troop 179 received his Eagle Scout rank at the Eagle Court of Honor on June 14 at Hollywood Church of the Brethren in Stafford County.

Jonathon began Scouting with Pack 197 in 2001. He earned Cub Scouting's highest award, the Arrow of Light, and the religious award, God and Me. In 2004, after his bridging ceremony, Jonathon joined Troop 170 at Fredericksburg Methodist Church.

While in Troop 170 Jonathon participated in summer camp, hikes and numerous camp-outs. He advanced through the Scout ranks to Star.

In 2006, Jonathon joined Troop 179 at Fairview Baptist Church. He participated in summer camps, Eagle service projects, Scouting for Food, and the memorial luminaria service. He advanced to Life Scout and held a leadership position as den chief.

Jonathon's Eagle project consisted of fundraising, painting, cleaning and setting up a youth center at Hollywood Church.

Jonathon is a rising junior at Stafford High School. He is a member of Skills USA, the National Junior Honor Society and the Hollywood Church of the Brethren youth group. He recently became a certified drafter.

Jonathon follows in the steps of his grandfather Dr. John E. Bryant Jr. in becoming an Eagle Scout.

Guests and speakers at his Court of Honor included House Speaker Bill Howell, Troop Master Howie Wendt, Assistant Troop Masters Harry Oldland and Jim Mann, and Pastor Rick Ritchie.
