John T. Williams
John T. Williams, 84, of Fredericksburg, formerly of Indian Head, Md., died Monday, June 15, 2009, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mr. Williams was a World World II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy from August 1943 until March 1946 with most of his service time aboard the USS Peterson, a destroyer escort.
Mr. Williams liked fishing and boating. He earned a 50-year service award from the Masons. He was married for more than 50 years. He enjoyed his family, art, reading and bluegrass music. He was proud of his service to his country in the Navy. He was a caring, loving gentleman who loved his family and country.
Born Feb. 28, 1925, in Oraville, Md., he was the son of the late John Ireland Williams and Rose Catherine Quade. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Marie Hackney Williams, whom he married Feb. 22, 1947, and who died in 2002, and his brother Richard Lawrence Williams.
He is survived by his siblings, Joseph LeRoy Williams and Roger Graves, both of Maryland, and Myrtle Marie Graves of Pennsylvania; his sons, John "Jack" Ilan Williams of Maryland and Jeffrey Thomas Williams of Virginia; daughters-in-law Nancy Williams and Jo-anne Williams; and his grandchildren, Erik Williams and his wife, Jessica, of Mechanicsville, Md., Amber Moyerman and her husband, Shane, of Port Tobacco, Md., Shannon Williams of Boston, Stephanie Kiser and her hus-band, Simon, of Columbia, S.C., and Amanda Becker and her husband, Joshua; and great-grandchildren Phillip Williams, Elizabeth Wil-liams, Nathan Williams and Adam Williams, all of Fredericksburg.
A funeral was held June 18 at St. James Episcopal Church in Indian Head. Burial took place in Trinity Me-morial Gardens, Waldorf, Md. Pallbearers were Erik Williams and Phillip Williams.
Arrangements were handled by Williams Funeral Home, Indian Head.
