John E. Prominski, formerly of Fredericksburg, was presented the Lawyer of the Year award at the recent meeting of the D.C. Defense Lawyer Association's annual banquet at Columbia Country Club, Chevy Chase, Md. He is partner at the law firm of Miles & Stockbridge and works out of the Tysons Corner office.

Local residents Linda Worrell of Worrell Management Group, Al Smith of Dominion Virginia Power and Carrie O'Malley of Hirschler Fleischer became members of the Rappahannock United Way board of directors this month.

Robert "Hugh" Newton has been appointed president of M&T Bank's Central Virginia region, which includes the bank's three Fredericksburg-area branches. Newton has more than 30 years of banking experience and joins M&T as a result of a recent merger with Provident Bank.
