Three-year-old AquaPalooza event still going strong

It's been two years since Taylor Swift won local hearts by performing on a barge in the Potomac River at Fairview Beach's first AquaPalooza.
Swift has since gone on to bigger things--like having her heart broken by a Jonas Brother and releasing her chart-topping album "Fearless."
As for the now-annual AquaPalooza party--organized by Woodbridge's Prince William Marine and hosted by Tim's II--it's still going strong, too.
On Saturday, the third annual event will feature six bands, with a headlining appearance by Daryle Singletary, best known for his mid-'90s country hits "Too Much Fun," "Amen Kind of Love" and "I Let Her Lie." Other bands participating are the Borrowed Time Band, Key West Band, Wild Bunch, Darby Brothers and Drivin' South.
The event is one of many sponsored and promoted internationally by Sea Ray throughout the summer. Though this year's Fairview Beach AquaPalooza won't be a "signature event" like the 2007 one was, Prince William Marine owner Carlton Phillips estimated that the turnout will be similar.
Currently, about 6,000 to 7,000 people--or about 1,000 boats--are preregistered, Phillips said. "And we always pick up another three or four hundred boats, or another three or four thousand people. So we'll probably have 1,500 boats at this location," he said.
However, the total number can be hard to count, since people tend to come in shifts to the event, which begins at 11 a.m. and goes until dark, with a fireworks display set to begin around 9:15 p.m.
Though it stayed pretty packed throughout the day, Phillips said there were about three rounds of revelers in past years. "We have the early birds that come in and party and drink and get burnt out in the sun, and then they leave and we have the afternoon drinkers and partyers, and then we have the people that come by for the fireworks," he said.
The fireworks are shot from a barge in the water built specially for the purpose. Phillips said the display is one of two that Prince William Marine sponsors at Tim's II--the other takes place the week after the Fourth of July.
