Fredericksburg teen earns Eagle rank

Date published: 8/16/2009

Domenico "Domenic" Rossi Jr. of Fredericksburg was awarded the Boy Scouts of America's highest rank of Eagle Scout on Aug. 8 at Friendship Baptist Church. Troop 199 of the Aquia District hosted the Court of Honor

Domenic's Scouting experience has spanned several continents, starting as a Tiger Cub in RAF Menwith Hill Station in Harrogate, England. He became a Bear Scout in Pack 1 in Fort Leavenworth, Kan. He then pursued the rank of Webelos I in Pack 260 in Fort Riley, Kan. Domenic earned his Arrow of Light with Pack 35, joining the Boy Scouts of America with Troop 35 in Montclair, Va. He later obtained the ranks of Star and Life Scout with Troop 24 at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Now he is part of Troop 199 of Fredericksburg.

Domenic's first great Scouting memory took place when he was a Wolf Cub in England. His father, his brother and he traveled with the pack to Normandy, France, to help clean the beaches for the 55th anniversary of D-Day. Another favorite memory is of his first camp-out with Troop 24. He was unsure of where all of the camping would take place on such a small island until he arrived at the campsite and saw the beach. He remembers setting everything up as on a normal camp-out, but then being able to take his socks and shoes off and relax on the ocean side.

Domenic's Eagle service project involved a deteriorated farm fence on the part of the Chancellorsville battlefield that hosted Jackson's flank attack. He restored the fence to period condition.

Rossi is a 2009 summa cum laude graduate of Stafford Senior High School. He has accepted a four-year Army ROTC scholarship to Ohio State University.

He is the son of Domenico and Judith Rossi.
