Frank G. Burrell

Frank Gordon Burrell, 86, of Dahlgren went to meet his Lord Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. He was born June 18, 1923, in Appomattox County, the son of Nick and Essie Woodall Burrell.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary L. Burrell; daughter Karen B. Buffkin and her husband, George; and son Keith W. Burrell Sr. and his wife, Sally. Survivors include his brothers William Nick Burrell and Russell Burrell; his grandchildren, Keith W. Burrell Jr. and his wife, Shawn, April Lyn Papenfus and her husband, Jerry, and Joshua Yon and his wife, Annette; and his great-grandchildren, Chadd and Meagan Burrell, Angel, Jolee and Sam Coates, and Trent, Clint and Lincoln Yon.

He was preceded in death by son Bruce Gordon Burrell; his parents, Nick and Essie Burrell; and brothers Fred and James Burrell.

Frank was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved the Lord and enjoyed telling people how the Lord had given him a long and happy life. He was a lifelong member of Oakland Baptist Church.

Frank worked 33 years at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren, and retired from the Naval Space Surveillance System in 1975.

He was a happy man with a good sense of humor, and is fondly remembered for his love for selling cars.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Oakland Baptist Church, King George, with the Rev. Cliff Hedges and the Rev. Guy Mattox Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fredericksburg. Family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George.
