Otis L. Gatling

Otis Lee "Bo" Gatling Sr., 83, of Fredericksburg passed away Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Otis was one of Jehovah's witnesses for 48 years. He loved gardening and fishing, and was good with his hands. He worked for Spotsylvania County for 25 years and was a devoted husband, father, and especially a devoted minister of Jehovah God.

Otis is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth; his 11 children: Mary Donovan and her husband, Michael, of Richmond, Otis L. Gatling Jr. of Fredericksburg, Dan Gatling of Harrisonburg, Jerusha Gatling of Fredericksburg, Debbie Foxx and her husband, Boyd, of Fredericksburg, Randolph Gatling, Diane Jackson and her husband, Ralph, and Roosevelt Gatling, all of Fredericksburg, Timothy Gatling and his wife, Gail, of Liberia, Africa, Jeffrey Gatling and his wife, Sophie, of Charlotte, N.C., and Lisa Fortune and her husband, Troy, of Dallas; his sister Maudie Mae Jefferies of Jackson, N.C.; his uncle Floyd Edwards of Norfolk; his nephew Theodore Gatling and his wife, Sarah, of Cheverly, Md.; his niece Ella Mae Gatling of North Carolina; 14 grandchildren: Lakenna Gregory, Jason Donavon, Tremeka Chandler, LaTanya Taylor, Johnathan and Michael Foxx, Tiffany and Rachel Jackson, Darawin, Malcolm, Boaty, Seth and Colette Gatling, and Victoria Fortune; three great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg.

A funeral service celebrating Otis' life will be held at noon Saturday, Sept. 12, at the funeral chapel, with Edward Winters officiating. Interment will follow in Glenhaven Memorial Gardens in Stafford.
