Stop the cloud of fear and untruths re: BPOL

This is in response to Paul Milde's op-ed ["Only voters can save Stafford business now," Aug. 26].

Based on his commentary on BPOL, it is obvious that the incumbent supervisor for the Aquia District is an unrepentant Republican.

Like too many of his state and federal colleagues, he learned nothing from last November's election. Consequently, he continues to use the failed Republican tactic of creating a cloud of fear and doubt, often with untruths.

The problem that he and other Republican candidates now have is that the majority of the voting population realizes that Republican officeholders serve only those who financially support them.

In the eight years of the Bush administration, nothing was done that benefited the majority of Americans. During that time, while the middle and working classes suffered, the wealthy got wealthier.

Last November's election of a Democratic administration and Congress was a broad-based repudiation of self-serving Republicans.

Aquia's unenlightened Republican supervisor would have you believe that implementation of BPOL will drive businesses from Stafford. Not true. Where would they go?

Most growing localities have BPOL. Fairfax, for instance, has long had BPOL and is thriving, and Fairfax is one of the most affluent counties in the country.

Stafford homeowners should understand that BPOL will help to avoid an increase in property taxes.

The election of Doug Filler in Falmouth, Paul Ortiz in Aquia, Laura Sellers in Garrisonville, and the re-election of Joe Brito in Hartwood will preserve BPOL and keep our property taxes low.
