The Caroline County Board of Supervisors recently approved a cable franchise agreement with MetroCast Communications.
The 15-year contract includes a provision for Caroline to get three community-access channels.
One of the channels is the Bowling Green Town channel that is already broadcasting.
County Administrator Percy Ashcraft said officials hope to start broadcasting the Board of Supervisors meetings on one of those channels.
Currently, the meetings are available only on the county's Web site.
Other items Ashcraft said could be broadcast are School Board meetings, educational information, video comments from county departments and submissions from the community.
Supervisor Floyd Thomas, who heads the county's technology committee, said last week that MetroCast has agreed to expand broadband service from Bowling Green into the Port Royal area. He mentioned that Comcast has also discussed possible broadband expansion in the county.
In other business, the board:
Received 1,000 passes from the State Fair of Virginia to be distributed to nonprofits, which can call 804/633-4530 or e-mail Email: kjenkins@co.caroline.va.us for up to 20 tickets per organization.
Approved up to $25,000 for emergency repairs to the Frog Level Rescue Squad station.
