Source of Wilson's rudeness wasn't racism

I was appalled when I read Donnie Johnston's Sept. 18 column ["Crybabies are the rage in the news for this week"].

I will be the first to admit that Rep. Joe Wilson showed bad manners. However, to equate a comment made in the heat of the moment during a speech with striking a young black man is laughable, even by Donnie's standards.

All of the examples he put forth are about one "W": winning.

Serena Williams just wanted to win. Kanye West wanted Beyonce to win. And Joe Wilson wants the Republicans to win health care reform.

To throw out the race card just shows that Donnie wants to win, at any and all costs.

Calling Americans who are exercising their First Amendment right of free speech "racists" is what my grandmother would call a "lack of common sense."

Which definition of racist are you applying to wilson? 1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others. 2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination. 3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

Everyone has this idea that black votes are the reason behind Obama's presidency. Well, yes, they did help and they helped a good deal. However, how many people do you think voted against him because he is 1/2 black. Believe me when I tell you, a whole lot. Only 15% of the population is black. Run those number in your head. I personally know many, many people who voted against him because he was black. I voted for him because I felt he was the best person for the job. Simple as that.
