Matilda Baker

Matilda Baker, 82, of Fredericksburg passed away Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at Heritage Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in King George.

Mrs. Baker was born on June 11, 1927, in Wynne, Ark., to Julius and Margaret Becker Baker, and resided in Memphis, Tenn., for 40 years.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Baker was predeceased by her husband, William Lee Baker Sr.

She is survived by a daughter, Peggy Stevens, and husband Eric of Fredericksburg; two sons, William "Bill" Baker Jr. of King George, and David Baker of Reston; two grandchildren, Tatiana and Jacob Stevens, both of Fredericksburg; two sisters, Pat Meade of Memphis and Rita Walters and husband James of Bentonville, Ark.; brother Herman "Bill" Ballmann of Wynne, Ark.; and a sister-in-law, Dawn Ballmann of Fargo, N.D.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Home, Fredericksburg Chapel, 1621 Jefferson Davis Highway, Fredericksburg, Va. 22401. A mass of Christian burial will be offered at noon Saturday Sept. 26, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fredericksburg. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
