Rene Debets

Rene Debets, 70, formerly a longtime resident of King George County, left to join his daughter Ali in heaven Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009.

Rene was an active businessman and community member in the area for 40 years. He managed Historyland Memorial Park for over a decade and created the Faithful Friends pet cemetery and Veterans Memorial Program for which he was honored as VFW's man of the year. He served as president of and was instrumental in starting both the King George Little League and REACT chapters. He helped bring the first cable television service to the county.

Rene was a longtime employee of Metropolitan Life Insurance, and owned Stillwagon Insurance Agency. He was an avid coin collector.

Rene leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 37 years, Nancy Debets. He also leaves his legacy behind in his sons and their spouses: William (Stephanie), Joe (Glenda) and Dan (Stephanie) and (Brenda). He was most proud of his six grandkids, Jessie, Jacob, Collin, Cody, Joe-Joe and Hunter. He will be sorely missed by all his extended family.

There will be a memorial service to celebrate his life at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, at 7119 Dorothy Lane, Spotsylvania. All are invited to attend. He will be laid to rest in Tioga County Memorial Gardens in Mansfield, Pa., on Tuesday, Oct. 6, with a small graveside service for family and close friends.

Arrangements are being handled by James A. Carlton Jr. Funeral Home in Wellsboro, Pa.
