An ambulance carrying a patient and a Fredericksburg police car responding to another call collided in Central Park early yesterday.
No one suffered serious injuries, police said, but the ambulance driver was charged with reckless driving.
The Fredericksburg Rescue Squad ambulance was using its emergency lights when it collided with the city police car about 2 a.m., said city police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe. She said the crash occurred at the intersection of Carl D. Silver Parkway and Central Park Boulevard.
The ambulance overturned and the collision also damaged a pickup and Dodge Neon stopped at the traffic light at Cowan Boulevard.
The ambulance was transporting a patient from T.G.I. Friday's while the patrol car driven by Cpl. Josh Lynch was responding to a fight call at Bailey's Pub.
The ambulance had its emergency equipment activated as it approached a red light. It slowed at the intersection, but did not stop, police said.
The police car had the green light and did not have its emergency equipment activated, Bledsoe said.
The original patient in the ambulance, a passenger in the Neon and the two rescue volunteers were taken to the hospital by other ambulances, but police said none of them suffered significant injuries in the crash.
The police officer went to the hospital on his own after the accident, Bledsoe said.
The driver of the ambulance, Joshua Gill, 22, of Stafford, was charged with reckless driving.
The patient being transported, Holly Pierce, 26, an employee at T.G.I. Friday's, had suffered a seizure there. She was admitted to the hospital but released yesterday.
Damage estimates to the vehicles were not immediately available.

LArryG, I am not sure if the FPD have video or if they have position/speed monitoring ability. As for the VSP report, I don't think they make those public. Here is a copy of there website outlining who can get a copy of an accident report.

asking again - does the FPD have video equipment on their cars and/or do they
record position and speed?
" a Fredericksburg police car responding to another call "
nothing in the article said the Police Cruiser was speeding but if that was true but
the way it was stated left some implications - perhaps wrongly so.
I would imagine the insurance companies are going to be interested also.
when will the VSP report be publically available?

It amazes me how many people are so quick to blame the officer considering the ambulance driver admitted to not coming to a complete stop and how some of the facts of this accident were not reported by the FLS. I was not there and I don't know what happened so I have to have faith that the VSP trooper that did the investigation did it right. FLS, how about a followup since so many people here have questions....and can you reports all of the facts and not just the ones you want to?

Unfortunatly the ambulance can not just take the intersection even though it had its emergency equipment activated. When they come to a red light they are asking for the right of way and must stop until given. The officer was responding to a call with no light but had the right of way by law. So the way it goes the ambulance driver was at fault BUT!!!! since the officer had no emergency equipment activitated HE SHOULD OF GIVEN THE RIGHT OF WAY TO THE AMBULANCE. Sad he could not do what he himself asks us.
was the police car speeding????

Who here had a radar unit trained on the police car and can say it was speeding? I have friends in law enforcement and that has allowed me to do a few ride-a-longs. You would be amazed at how the kind of car and the surroundings of the car can change how fast you THINK a vehicle is going. Since the FPD was not the investigating agency, you would have to ask the VSP why the officer did not get a ticket since it was the VSP that handled the investigation. It amazes me how many people here are overlooking the
