A. Homero Vega
Angel Homero Vega, 84, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2009.
Mr. Vega was born in the city of Veracruz in Vera Cruz, Mexico. He studied mathematics in Mexico City and later returned to Veracruz, graduating from the Mexican Naval Academy.
As a new lieutenant, he was sent to the Philippines during World War II. After the war, he was assigned to the Mexican Embassy in Washington, D.C. There he began a long career in the Diplomatic Corps, eventually becoming assistant Naval Attache in the Mexican Embassy and liaison to the Pentagon. He retired upon reaching the rank of admiral and settled in Texas.
During his career, he furthered his education and earned a degree in electrical engineering.
Mr. Vega was a world traveler who was interested in other cultures and people. Anyone who ever met him enjoyed his humor and optimistic approach to life. He later became a naturalized citizen of the United States.
He is predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Jessie S. Vega.
He is survived by his wife of four years, Carmen G. Vega of El Paso, Texas; his brother, Sergio; his sister, A. Elena Vega; three daughters and their husbands, Elena V. and Harald Jenewein of Fredericksburg, Jessie V. and Francisco Andreau of Portland, Maine, and Gloria V. and John Tatar of Chicago, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held in El Paso. The family will gather for viewing at noon Saturday, Oct. 10, followed by a prayer service at 1 at Mullins & Thompson Fredericksburg Chapel. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at their home in Fredericksburg after the burial.
