Don't cry for terrorists; remember 9/11 instead

This is in response to Eric Morgan's letter ["Torture? It's simply indefensible," Sept. 30].

If Mr. Morgan considers waterboarding and photographing of nude Abu Ghraib detainees "torture," he should look into the unspeakable conditions at almost every local, state, and federal prison, where inmates are raped on a daily basis and suffer beatings, degradation, and humiliation.

I guess George Bush and Dick Cheney are to be held responsible for those acts, as well.

Yes, we did get results from many of those who were tortured, as we have not had an attack such as 9/11 in eight years.

I would like to suggest that Mr. Morgan ask the survivors of those 3,000 people who perished if they would rather have had to submit to waterboarding than leaping out of windows more than 1,200 feet high to escape the horrible fate awaiting them.

Bush failed America miserably (posted by UberMensch , Oct. 12, 2009 7:48 pm)
There was never something like 911. It was an attack never seen before before. Why? Because we had leadership before. 911 happened a full 9 months into the Bush regime. That's not keeping us safe. Jimmy Carter kept us much safer than George Bush. That's bad enough, but then to shameless "use" such an utter and preventable tragedy for a hidden agenda (long in the planning - Iraq) is criminal. The price tag for Iraq broke the federal government (the goal), but oops, killed global economy too.

Oh please, UberMensch... (posted by tc_culpeper , Oct. 12, 2009 5:53 pm)
the problem didn't exist 200 years ago or anywhere near that time!!! The Bush administration did an excellent job in preventing more attacks. I doubt that we will be able to say the same with the present administration (but I sincerely hope I'm wrong).

Terror attacks prior to 9/11 (posted by PUBLIUSTWO , Oct. 12, 2009 12:03 pm)
Ubermensch: YOU LIE! World Trade Center, 1993 Oklahoma City 1995 Murrah Federal Building. US Embasy in Kenya, 1998. USS Cole 2000. There are at least 14 DOCUMENTED TERRORIST ATTACKS on the US since 1920. See them here: http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0001454.html

9/11 poor leadership not intel was problem (posted by UberMensch , Oct. 12, 2009 10:37 am)
The author completely misses the point (that Bush/Cheney wants him to keep missing). The disaster was preventable because we had the intel, but lacked leadership which was glaring when one focuses on Bush's first 9 months in office. No terror attacks since 9/11 - true. None in the 200 years prior to it either.

The Chinese water torture (posted by Mandrake , Oct. 11, 2009 8:56 pm)
has always been my favorite. Simple, elegant yet effective.
