Knights secure district victories

The Spotsylvania cross country teams swept a meet at Loriella Park yesterday.

The Knight girls edged Chancellor 36-39, while the boys won 31-43 over runner-up Courtland.

In the girls race, Courtland (57) was third, Powhatan (107) fourth and Caroline (134) fifth. In the boys race, Chancellor (79) was third and Powhatan (86) fourth.

King George vs. JM

The King George girls topped James Monroe 20-37, while the Yellow Jacket boys won 19-44 at Pratt Park yesterday.

Girls results: 1. Haley Armentrout (KG) 20:02, 2. Ciara Mading (KG) 21:19, 3. Lindsay Armentrout (KG) 21:30, 4. Megan Wade (JM) 21:43, 5. Annie Clemo (JM) 22:14. Boys results: 1. Ryan Haynes (JM) 17:23, 2. Dylan Schuler (JM) 17:55, 3. Jason Ames (KG) 17:58, 4. Paul Mason (JM) 18:17, 5. Michael Denham (JM) 18:21.

FIELD HOCKEY

Spotsylvania 2, King George 1

Kelsey Link and Molly Malloy each scored goals to lift Spotsylvania to a Battlefield District win yesterday.

Mia Meyer scored and Kendall Eskey had an assist for the Foxes, while goalie Ally Bienz made 37 saves.

Chelsea Mann registered an assist, and Nicole Simms and Kaitie Seay played solid defense for the Knights (6-9, 6-7), who entertain Eastern View next Wednesday.

Courtland 5, Culpeper 2

Visiting Courtland earned a Battlefield District win over Culpeper yesterday.
