Louise L. Day
Louise L. Day, 88, of Culpeper County went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community.
A native of Washington, D.C., she worked for the FBI until she met and married Capt. George Day, a pilot serving in the U.S. Air Force in Montgomery, Ala.
She was very gallant as she and her two young children weathered a typhoon while traveling on a battleship en route to Tokyo, Japan, to be with her husband. Louise was an extremely talented artist, and painted everything from the Lord's Supper to beautiful farm scenes for many farmers in the Northern Neck area where she and George had retired. She loved her church and spending endless hours working with children of all ages.
She also loved playing the organ and piano, sewing everything from baby clothes to wedding dresses, and spent hours digging in her gardens.
Louise was also a beloved, faithful friend to so many she met across the country, and was a dedicated daughter to her late parents. Louise loved being a faithful member of the Mitchells Presbyterian Church choir, and enjoyed substituting as the church organist when she could.
Preceding her in death was her loving husband of 64 years, George, also of the Baptist Retirement Community in Culpeper.
Survivors include her children, daughter Sue Smith and her husband, Fred, and son George "Eddie" Day, all of Rhoadesville; grandson David Fones of Mechanicsville; her sister, Alice Loyd of Culpeper; niece Kathy Shriner and her husband, Larry, of Upton, Ky.; nephew Danny Day and his wife, Felicia, of Arlington; niece Barbara Day of Arlington; and sister-in-law Margaret Day of Lake Ridge.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at Mitchells Presbyterian Church, 12229 Mitchell Road, Mitchells, with Pastor John Grotz officiating.
Interment will follow immediately in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends after the services in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Louise Day to the Mary Scott Gyory Church Youth Scholarship Fund, Box 98, Mitchells, Va. 22729.
Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is handling the arrangements.
