Marine Pvt. 1st Class Jon C. Atkinson graduated from boot camp at Parris Island, S.C., while achieving sharpshooter rifleman status. He is the son of Jon and Judith Atkinson of Spotsylvania and is a 2009 graduate of Courtland High School.

Army National Guard Pvt. Jose A. Casado graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, Okla. He is the son of Waleska Salaman of Spotsylvania and is a 2009 graduate of Massaponax High School.

Army Reserve Staff Sgt. Josiah J. Jenkins has returned to the U.S. after being deployed overseas at a forward operating base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is the son of Joe and Ruth Jenkins of Spotsylvania, and earned a bachelor's degree in 2006 from Trinity Institute University, Deerfield, Ill.

Army Cadet Brian J. Paterson graduated from the Army ROTC Leader's Training Course at Fort Knox, Ky. He is the son of Daniel J. Paterson of Spotsylvania and attends James Madison University.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Alendra J. Powell graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. She is the daughter of Andria Powell-Ross of Spotsylvania and Edward Shettisworth of Peoria, Ill.

Army Cadet Kenneth A. Spenard graduated from the Army ROTC Leader Development and Assessment Course at Fort Lewis, Wash. He is the son of Arthur E. and Sallie P. Spenard of Spotsylvania. He is a 2006 graduate of Riverbend High School, and attends James Madison University.

Air Force Airman John M. White graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He is the son of John White of Spotsylvania and is a 2007 graduate of Riverbend High School.

Army Spc. Christopher M. Williams graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, , Ga. He is the son of Diane Zumatto of Spotsylvania and is a 2009 graduate of Riverbend High School.
