Editorial on election has me outraged
Date published: 10/30/2009
I find myself sitting here angry and offended by the Oct. 29 editorial regarding D.J. McGuire and Chris Yakabouski ["For stops past VRE, elect Skinner & Pitts"].
You see, I am D.J.'s wife, and I find that reference to my husband as a "would-be abortionist" to be outrageous and offensive.
My husband is a devout Catholic and a good man. He is smart and truly has a desire to help the county he has chosen as his home.
To take an issue that is so very volatile and imply he is something he is not is out of line.
If the editorial writer wishes to disagree with him regarding whether the VRE is good for Spotsylvania County, he has every right. In fact, my husband respects everyone's right to believe what he or she wants.
We have children, one of whom is very small and who might hear this term being used about his father. What right does the editorial writer have to malign someone's character when he doesn't even know him or her?
If he had stuck to the issue without this outrageous character assassination, I would not find myself in the position of writing this letter.
The editorial writer owes him and my family an apology for using this phrase.

I'm sorely tempted to vote to ban Sacha and NASA for their pro abortion stances. Both of them (and I'm not certain that they aren't the same person) deserve some punishment for their stance on an illegal operation which the Supreme Court (at least, the smart ones on the Court) knows is murder. We freely support orphanages, homes, etc., with lots of big bucks so that women can have their unwanted babies and supply foster homes with a good choice of kids, so why can't you people see the light from above.
Don't insult the editorialist's command of the English language!

How often is the term "mission aborted" used? Are we offended by that? I don't think so. The word aborted means "to fail, cease, or stop at an early or premature stage. An idea can be aborted, a task can be aborted, and on and on. In this case, I think we've carried politically correct to an extreme. Now I'm going to abort this message.

I'm not sure of the context but I think Pitts meant that he
would not raise property taxes and himself did not consider
the VRE gas tax - as a tax... and I concede - it is a tax.
my "straight shooter" characterization is that - for myself - I
have found him to be pretty straight forward and open.
I liked Yak also before he got drawn into some right-wing
social issues...
I like my BOS to be focused on county issues and not the
political party issues - neither party.

My post was to point out that Pitts is not being truthful. Raising the Gas Tax and not calling it tax icrease is dishonest. You said Pitts was a "Straight Shooter". In my book misleading the public this way is not right. And by the way where is the news coverage on this?
