Hospice workers and volunteers are angels

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the Oct. 12 article titled "This is 'emotional first aid.'"

It was good to see the recognition that The Free Lance-Star gave to the hospice volunteers.

One never realizes the wonderful things they do until their help is actually needed by families that are dealing with illnesses.

I have had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know Stephen Hu and Carolyn Phillips on several occasions, when they have been in our home to bring cheer to my terminally ill husband.

They are so talented, and the mixture of gospel and mountain music they have provided has been so pleasant for him. He is bedridden, and he enjoys their presence and the many railroad songs they entertain him with.

They have made such a difference in the quality of his life. It has been uplifting to our entire family.

I must also comment on Emily Kidwell. She is an angel to everyone, whether it be in the classroom, church, or community. She is a caring person, and she always says and does the right thing in any type of situation. It has been my pleasure to be her friend for many years.

These volunteers give so much of their time and talents just for the enjoyment they get in making one's life a little better.

May God bless all volunteers for the comfort they provide whenever there is a need.
