Why should I have to pay for the LOW dam?
I have just recently found out that our trash dump is not part of Lake of the Woods' yearly assessment.
Among other things that I have to pay for separately (swimming pool, fitness center, golf, and so on), what am I paying for with my yearly money? Security, grounds keeping, rocks on the road ("road paving"), and a board that makes rash decisions.
An assessment of $1,200 is not getting me much. Now the board wants another $1,200 for the dam project, and what is that going to get me? I don't even live near the darn thing.

kept it all in their own private association newsletter, then how would those folks looking for a house to buy know to avoid LOW? Personally I find it hillarious that they keep harping on this subject when all it accomplishes is hurting their own home resale values, by giving their neighborhood a bad reputation.
You have to pay because you live in LOW

and you have an HOA. It sux, but you accepted that fact when you read the by-laws. As others have mentioned, I HATE HOAs!

Mr. Gross, there are plenty of beautiful neighborhoods in the area with no HOA. Of course they aren't gated, but that prestige comes at a price. In the case of the dam, you all have to share in the expenses that would have been paid by the county/state in a non-gated community. As for not getting much for your annual $1200-what do you expect? My grandmother has alot of amenities in her senior gated community that are included in the HOA, but her HOA fees are over $3,000 a year. You get what you pay for

Lake of the Wood people, we love you, but who could give a rat's patooty what is going on inside of a gated community. You wanted to live in a private community, that is fine. Keep your politics and problems there. Seriously, this should be in your private community newsletter.
