Samuels now on IR, his season officially at an end
Redskins put Samuels on IR
Date published: 11/1/2009 By Rich Campbell The Washington Redskins yesterday placed left tackle Chris Samuels on the season-ending injured reserve list. The move was expected after Samuels suffered a neck injury in the Redskins' Week 5 loss against Carolina. The six-time Pro Bowler was hurt in a head-to-head collision on the Redskins' second snap of that game. Samuels, 32, hasn't played or practiced since then, and is contemplating retirement. In addition to his recent injury, he suffers from spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal. Washington did not fill Samuels' roster spot yesterday. The Redskins' offensive line has crumbled in the absence of Samuels and right guard Randy Thomas, who is already on injured reserve with a torn right triceps. In the last three games, they have surrendered a total of 14 sacks and have rushed for only 254 yards. Running back Clinton Portis accounted for 78 of those on a single run. --Rich Campbell
