Victim who was slashed charged with attacking assailant seven years later

Apparent revenge lands man in jail

Date published: 11/3/2009

BY KEITH EPPS

The victim of a knife-slashing nearly seven years ago is charged with attacking his assailant in that incident this past weekend.

Fredericksburg police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said the latest altercation took place about 12:30 a.m. Saturday at Fatty J's at 106 George St.

The victim in this incident, 29-year-old Steven Drummond, was leaving the nightspot when he was attacked at the front door by several people, police were told.

He identified one of them as 34-year-old Justin Sullivan of Fredericksburg. Sullivan was arrested Sunday at his home and charged with malicious wounding.

Drummond was taken by ambulance to Mary Washington Hospital, where he received stitches and was treated for swollen eye and a swollen cheekbone.

According to court records, Drummond and Sullivan had another violent encounter on Jan. 11, 2003, outside Uncle Sam's in Central Park.

Police reports state there was a dispute involving several people about some slashed tires in Spotsylvania County.

Drummond and Sullivan got into a physical altercation outside the bar that resulted in Sullivan's being cut on the face with a knife, leaving a permanent scar.

Drummond was charged then with malicious wounding but was convicted of unlawful wounding, a lesser charge.

Court records show he received a sentence of four years in prison with 21/2 years suspended.

Drummond told police that this weekend's attack was unprovoked, Bledsoe said, and involved Sullivan and two unknown suspects jumping him from behind.

Drummond and Sullivan were friends years ago, police said.

All I have to say is......What goes around comes around! Drummond is a joke....I mean seriously you were not left with any scars... Justin has lived for 7 years with a scar on his face that he did not deserve! What a puss to press charges..he should have taken it like a man! I mean Drummond really didn't get punished nearly like he should have been in the first place 7 years ago! The systems fails victims with plea bargains and a slap on the hand. I hope Justin gets off scott free...Just like Drummond did!

Legal system failing (posted by peachesmom , Nov. 3, 2009 11:47 am)
Unfortunatly the legal system is failing victims with plea bargainings and slaps on the wrists. I am beginning to wonder if the commonwealth is afraid to go to trial anymore. What happened to a jury of your peers? Seems they want to hand out these pleas to save money. So where are they saving when the man hours used for repeat repeat offender and the continued rise in crime due to those slaps on the wrist cost a great deal more. The streets are not safe but they keep putting them out there.

what goes around comes around, at least he didnt cut him or worse. i wonder if drummond is hoping sullivan will serve some time, probably wont get 1 1/2 years since he didnt use a KNIFE. kind of a sissy move pressing charges for getting the lumps he deserved in the first place.

Just let it go (posted by Nya_nyas , Nov. 3, 2009 9:43 am)
7 years ago? The guy already served 1 1/2 years in jail for cutting the other. Why the need for more conflict? This is why I don't go out... too much drama!
