LoBuglio takes K.G. win over incumbent Howard

King George County election results

Date published: 11/4/2009

BY BRYNN BOYER

John LoBuglio upended incumbent James Howard in a close-fought three-way race for a King George Board of Supervisors seat.

LoBuglio, 57, who recently received the endorsement of the King George Republican party, beat Howard by fewer than 100 votes.

All three candidates for the James Monroe District seat--LoBuglio, Howard and Billy McCoy Jr.--ran as Independents.

LoBuglio, a longtime member of the King George Republican party, retired from his job at the Tomahawk Cruise Missile Program Office at the Naval Base at Dahlgren to run for the position.

"I just persevered," he said. "I knew if I worked hard I could win."

LoBuglio said his endorsement from the Republicans may have helped him defeat Howard by 88 votes.

"It was a difficult race. I guess I was an underdog," LoBuglio said.

Howard has served 13 years on the board and four years on the School Board.

LoBuglio received a total of 883 votes, Howard received 795 votes and McCoy received 222 votes.

Cedell Brooks Jr., 46, ran unopposed for the Shiloh District seat. He has been on the board for 18 years.

The results for the Shiloh School Board seat will not be available until today.

No one was on the ballot for the Shiloh seat, held by Sherrie Allwine since 1999.

The election board will go through the 452 write-in votes and announce the winner.

Mike Rose, 40, campaigned as a write-in candidate for the Shiloh District seat.

Rick Randall ran unopposed for the James Monroe District School Board seat previously held by Payne Kilbourn.

ITS ABOUT TIME (posted by KingofGeorge , Nov. 4, 2009 1:41 pm)
I don't care what political party the candidate professes to be -- we need new blood on the BOS. More than 2 terms is to much. Do they think they are the only ones who can "supervise" our county or is it just the feel of power they have.

Howard had it coming... (posted by Mandrake , Nov. 4, 2009 7:47 am)
he ignores his constituents and hopes the dummies will keeo re-electing him without question. As they say in Broookly..."trow dem bums out'

The People Made their Will Known (posted by KGTaxPayer , Nov. 4, 2009 7:13 am)
The current BOS turned their back on Fire & Rescue and the people made their will known yesterday with the ousting of Mr. Howard. Mr. LaBuglio will work with Fire & Rescue. When voices are ignored, the cast ballot can make change.
