LOW board's poor planning costs us

I want my neighbors at Lake of the Woods to know I am going to buy myself a new car. The problem is that even though I have wanted this car for years, I have not saved any money for it, and I don't want to take out a loan.

Here is my solution to the problem: I want my fellow property owners to pay for my new car.

I am requesting that every lot owner in Lake of the Woods send me $50. This will cover the cost of the car and the taxes and leave a little extra money for upgrades to the car and gasoline.

I will need the money within 30 days because I want the car as a Christmas gift to myself. I think I deserve it.

On a more serious and less sarcastic note, stand up and let your voice be heard at Lake of the Woods!

This issue of the dam has been going on for years, and we are expected to pay at least part of the $1,200 fee in six weeks.

This special assessment is due on the same date our personal property taxes are due in Orange County, and 25 days before Christmas.

A little more notice would have been nice. This couldn't come at a worse time for many people.

Wideopenspace Y do u dislike all of LOW? (posted by RUserious , Nov. 6, 2009 7:50 am)
Do you have a spacific reason for disliking LOW?

grandfathered (posted by monkeyfactory , Nov. 5, 2009 6:57 pm)
stuff built in the past that was up to code should be good to go. This is a joke. even worse, the what if storm...well what if its 6x times bigger than that....or 1000x bigger, what precautions should we take until then? everything is going to be fine. this is a huge waste of money

Start saving (posted by mz , Nov. 5, 2009 5:47 pm)
Start saving your money for fixing the small dam. If Walmart goes where the Orange County Supervisors want it to go the spillway on the small will have to be modified. By State Law LOW has to bear much of the cost.

How were they supposed to know (posted by wideopenspace , Nov. 5, 2009 4:29 pm)
that their Board would pull this stunt? As far as the people knew, the money was there and available from their yearly assessments and dues. Turns out they didn't know it had all been pee'd away on stupid stuff that could have waited until after this dam issue was taken care of. I do not blame the people at all for not saving up, I blame their Board for acting so brash in believing they would beat the state and spending the rainy day fund. I do feel sorry for the people even though I dislike all of LOW.

I don't disagree (posted by Fredtastic , Nov. 5, 2009 10:36 am)
They probably should have been saving up for it. But this new rule is an abonation that LOW (and many others) have been fighting for sometime. Should they have saved up - probably - but I'm sure they were hoping that clearer heads would prevail at the state level and the state would back down from these assanine changes. Unfortunately that hasn't happened and many landowners across the state will pay to protect the public from Noah's Flood part 2. Luckily I'm not one of them.
