Linda Worrell, a well-known figure in the local and Virginia business community, received the Patricia Lacey Metzger Distinguished Achievement Award during the 16th annual Leadership Colloquium for Professional Women on Thursday at the University of Mary Washington.

She was honored for her career achievements, which include nearly six years at the helm of the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce as well as involvement in numerous community and business organizations. She currently heads her own business devel-opment com-pany.

Worrell "works tirelessly in any job she undertakes whether it be paid or volunteer," Meta R. Braymer, dean of the College of Graduate and Professional Studies, said in presenting the award to Worrell. "Many of us consider her the Energizer Bunny of the Fredericksburg region. A first-rate, can-do, high-energy, forward-thinking professional woman, she inspires others and serves as a role model for community leadership."

The Metzger award recognizes individuals who uphold high standards in their professional and personal lives while fulfilling a career goal of significant stature. The award is given in memory of Metzger, a UMW pro-fessor and a founder of the Colloquium, which is held yearly at the university's Stafford campus.
