FROM STAFF REPORTS

Three University of Mary Washington players were named to the all-Capital Athletic Conference men's soccer first team announced yesterday, and Roy Gordon was chosen co-coach of the year.

Seniors Emmett Rutkowski and Peter Toohey were joined by freshman midfielder Duke Mensah-Abrampah on the first team. UMW forwards T.L. Tutor and Will Gallop were chosen to the second team by the league's coaches.

Mensah-Abrampah and Tutor each scored seven goals to lead UMW in 2009. Rutkowksi, a Culpeper High School graduate, had a 12-6-1 record with five shutouts and a 1.06 goals-against average, with Toohey one of his top defenders.

Salisbury senior forward Kyle Sterling was named player of the year. Stevenson's John Plevyak shared the coaching award with Gordon, who was honored for the eighth time.

SWIMMING

UMW's Justin Anderson and Sarah Crockett were named CAC's swimmers of the week.

Anderson won the 100- and 200-yard freestyles, then swam legs on two winning relay teams in a CAC tri-meet with York and Hood Friday. At the same meet, Crockett won the 200 free and the 200 backstroke and was a member of two winning relay teams.
