Why are you littering Virginians so prideless?
Date published: 11/16/2009
I reside in Pennsylvania. Under the Virginia Adopt- a-Highway program, a few weekends ago my wife and I traveled to Caroline County to help my best friend (we are Vietnam veterans) and his wife pick up trash along two miles of Long Branch Road in the county.
We picked up everything from food wrappers to broken glass, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, newspapers, food, paper cups, cigarette butts and packs, cigar butts, old clothes, diapers, used drug paraphernalia, cardboard, bags of trash you name it.
Don't you people of beautiful Virginia take any pride in where you live? Are you that careless?
If you have trash in your vehicle, can't you hold it until you get to a proper trash receptacle? It's not a pretty sight, and it certainly does not make a good impression for the people who are traveling through Virginia.
The reason I am writing this note is because we spent Saturday, Oct. 24, cleaning up after you Virginians of Caroline County. When we returned to Pennsylvania, we received a message that people had already started throwing trash along the road.
Residents of Caroline County, you should be ashamed of yourselves. We are trying to help you keep Virginia beautiful and litter-free. With your help, we all can leave our children a cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful Virginia.

that if they throw their trash out the window and it "magically" disappears after awhile...chances are they're gonna throw stuff out again. Or they think "it's just one bottle". The problem is when 100 people think that same thing.

I hate to admit it but Va residents are pigs when it comes to the environment.

Hey there Mr. Pennsylvania, why the attitude? I understand that you are trying to make us aware of what is going on, but one would think you could do so without being insulting. If all you are going to do is complain, then don't come back! I can tell you this much, a drive through PA is certainly no picnic! Paying to drive on a road that is constantly being "repaired" is what goes on in your state. Thanks for helping out, but check the attitude at the door next time.

I, too, find it disgusting that people can't hang on to their trash until they find the proper receptacle. What really ticks me off are the numerous people who just throw out their cigarettes as if we are their personal ash tray. Didn't your car come equipped with something to dispose of your habit? Just last week I was behind a Harrisonburg police officer whose car also must be lacking an ash tray. Go figure.
