LEISURE CLASSES
Horseback Riding: Dec. 2-30, for ages 6 and older. Registration deadline Friday. Understand how the horse receives training, grooming to ride, how to tack and adjust equipment, fundamentals of riding position and aids, arena skills and how to negotiate a safe trail walk. CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES
Tang Soo Do Kiddie Karate one-day clinic: Dec. 1. Registration deadline Friday. Fee: $10 for residents, $20 nonresidents.
Creative Side Art Class: Dec. 1-29. Registration deadline Friday. Students learn about planning a painting, techniques, color basics, and light and shadow using water colors and/or acrylics. Students will also learn basic drawing skills. Class assignments are age-appropriate.
Young Chef's Academy Christmas Around the World: Dec. 14. Registration deadline Dec. 4. Make brown sugar cookies, German stollen, French holiday truffles and Italian biscotti. Fee: $35 for residents, $45 nonresidents.
FITNESS
New Beginnings: Nov. 30-Dec. 28, for ages 21 and older. Registration deadline Friday. Burn calories and tone problem areas in addition to improving posture, reducing stress and increasing energy. Fee: $35, or $8 per class.
Boot Camp: Nov. 30-Dec. 30, for ages 21 and older. Registration deadline Friday. Improve cardiovascular stamina, increase muscle tone and strength, and decrease body fat. Suitable for all fitness levels. Fee: $50, or $8 per class.
Turkey Burner Boot Camp: Nov 25-27. Registration deadline Friday. Tailored to meet all fitness levels. Get an hour of cardio drills and strength training exercises to beat the turkey bloat and get a jump-start on fitness before New Year's arrives. Fee: $10, or $8 per class.
Turkey Burner Zumba: Nov. 25-27. Registration deadline Friday. Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program. Fee: $10, or $8 per class.
SENIORS
Senior Fun Fit Chair Class: Dec. 3-17, for ages 50 and older. Registration deadline Friday. Includes gentle flexibility exercises to improve range of motion; strength training exercises to enhance muscle tone, bone density, and balance. Fee: $15, or $5 per class.
TRIPS
New York City: Dec. 12. Meet the bus at the Loriella Park swimming-pool parking lot at 4 a.m. Bus returns the next day around 1:30 a.m. Registration deadline Dec. 4. Fee: $65 per person; does not include meals.
SPECIAL EVENTS
32nd annual Holiday Parade: Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. Bands, floats, antique cars, fire trucks, majorettes, horses and more can participate for free. Parade route runs from Spotsylvania Middle School to Spotsylvania Courthouse. State Route 208 is closed to traffic from 1:45 p.m. until the parade ends. Rain date is Dec. 12.
Santa's Helpers: Santa's helpers will call children Dec. 9-10, 6:-7:30 p.m. Registration is under way, and is limited to 50 children, ages 3-6, Spotsylvania residents only. Registration deadline is Dec. 4. Fee: $3 per child.
