The message couldn't have been more clear

I disagree that voters sent a mixed message to the county supervisors in the recent elections ["Board of Supervisors to face taxing issues," Nov. 9].

First, the majority of Stafford County voters think a tax aimed at gross profits like the BPOL is misguided, and serves only to make Stafford less business-friendly.

Stafford residents want a healthy local business environment so they don't have to drive to Potomac Mills or Central Park, and so they can keep their tax dollars in their county.

Second, the majority of Stafford voters desperately want more recreational opportunities.

Stafford's narrow, winding roads with no shoulders and few sidewalks or crosswalks make bicycle riding, walking, or running nearly impossible.

They are even willing to endure a small rise in taxes to pay for the Dominion Trail, which promises a traffic-free path from Aquia to Mountain View.

Third, Stafford voters, like voters all over this great country, are simply tired of politicians like Joe Brito and others who believe they know better than their constituents.
