David R. McLaughlin, 67, of Fredericksburg passed away Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at Mary Washington Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
David graduated from Northeastern University in Boston in 1966 and from Old Dominion University teacher's program in 2007. He retired from The American Land Title Association as vice president of finance and then became a special education teacher for the Gladys H. Oberle School in Fredericksburg.
Mr. McLaughlin was the past president of the Fredericksburg Optimist Club and a Paul Harris Fellow through the Stafford Rotary.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Joan Keleher McLaughlin; son Jared and his wife, Stacey, of Middleburg; sister Judith McLaughlin and her husband, Greg Ohanesian, of Sacramento, Calif.; mother-in-law Helen Keleher of Georgetown, Mass.; sisters-in-law Claire Cummings of Stafford County and Noreen Mansfield and her husband, Robert, of Georgetown, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, June Bohandy McLaughlin, and his father, Air Force Major General George W. McLaughlin.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Fred Donahoe officiating. Interment will take place in Quantico National Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends a half-hour prior to the service.
