Silver Cos. talking to other localities about their EDAs issuing Kalahari's bonds
Date published: 5/12/2010
Spotsylvania EDA Chairman Steve Thomas said yesterday the entire EDA has yet to discuss the idea but could do so at its regularly scheduled May 27 meeting or a special meeting called before that.
At the Spotsylvania Board of Supervisors meeting last night, supervisor Hap Connors said he was approached by Kalahari and city people because of "indecisiveness of the city's EDA" about issuing bonds at no risk. "I told them we could advance the conversation with staff. We would certainly be interested in exploring any economic development prospect that has some tangible benefits to the county."
The board voted 7-0 to direct staff to work with the city on this matter.
It's unclear whether the entire bond package could go through another EDA or just the taxable part.
The Fredericksburg City Council and Spotsylvania Board of Supervisors would each have to approve a resolution for the bonds to be issued by an EDA other than the city's.
