Caroline in final talks with new firm
Health care company apparently coming to Caroline

Date published: 6/9/2010

BY PORTSIA SMITH

McKesson Corporation, a Fortune 14 company and one of America's largest health care services companies, is in final negotiations to locate in Caroline County.

The Board of Supervisors approved a final draft of a performance agreement with McKesson last night. According to the agreement, McKesson will be investing $49 million-$56 million, creating 150 to 190 jobs and bringing more than $500,000 in annual revenues once a building is issued a certificate of occupancy.

According to its website, McKesson, based in San Francisco, employs more than 32,000 people.

"We are fortunate that we have the McKesson Corporation, which is a Fortune 14 company, willing to make their investments in Caroline County and we will do all we can to support them in their efforts here," said Board Chairman Maxie Rozell last night.

McKesson will make an official announcement later in June or in July, after completing internal administrative procedures.

The potential investment represents the largest single capital investment made by an industry in Caroline.

The State Fair is considered a nonprofit venture.

Spotsylvania County had been courting McKesson for three years.

In December 2007, Spotsylvania supervisors passed a resolution that called for an undisclosed company to locate in the 95 Commerce Business Park.

Last November, the resolution was amended to remove any specific site.

Spotsylvania officials had said they expected the company would generate about $900,000 a year in tax revenue.

In other Caroline business last night, County supervisors approved a rezoning request that would clear the way for a mixed-use, transit-oriented development. It would include a train station and other multi-modal facilities.

The project would encompass nearly 1,100 acres between U.S. 1 and Interstate 95 in the Carmel Church area, near the Flying J truck stop.

true. There ARE higher paying jobs in Caroline - you just have to be qualified for them. A new organization being built will also encourage others to do the same. More traffic, yes, but people need jobs and Caroline is trying to bring them to their county.

"and Caroline got good paying, white collar jobs..." (posted by bls_chic , June 9, 2010 8:41 pm)    0 likes
Do you think Caroline has ANY non poverty wage jobs? ALL the jobs here in Caroline are poverty wage... period. Caroline is the poorest of all the surrounding counties and has been that way since well before the recession. While Spotsy was sprouting up monsters like Central Park & Cosner Corner, our residents were making min wage at the Dollar Store, Food Lion, or at one of the 20+ gas stations we have here. So I say, bring on the White Collar jobs, its about @#%& time!

Bet Caroline didn't give up 50% of its tax revenue like the city did for the waterpark (posted by tpifos , June 9, 2010 3:45 pm)    0 likes
and Caroline got good paying, white collar jobs while the city settled for poverty wage lifeguard positions that will need to be filled by immigrants flown in with work visas. Waiting for the day the whole city will have to be annexed to the county.

Gooood work Spotsy! (posted by 97tdawg , June 9, 2010 11:00 am)    0 likes
Just more proof the leaders of this county dont know a damn thing. Idiots! From Jerry Hill and his cronies fleecing our school system to the inept BOS that doesnt have a clue.

Health care company... shocker. One of the last industries still thriving due to their ability to fleece.
