The principal and an assistant principal at King George High School recently resigned.

Principal Todd Satterwhite and Assistant Principal Holly Wargo submitted their letters of resignation last Friday, King George County Superintendent Candace Brown said.

Brown said the School Board must approve the resignations, which she said are effective Sept. 1, at its meeting on Monday.

School starts Sept. 7.

Brown said former King George High School Principal Joe Pociask, who retired five years ago, will serve as interim principal.

“Dr. Pociask is a seasoned high school principal,” Brown said. “He’s familiar with the school division.”

She said she doesn’t know when the division will hire a full-time replacement.

Clifton Conway is the only assistant principal returning to King George High School for the 2010–11 school year.

Former Assistant Principal Rob Marchetti left to become an assistant principal at Massaponax High School in Spotsylvania County, Brown said.

The King George School Board is scheduled to name a new assistant principal at its meeting Monday, Brown said.

“We feel that person will be able to just move in and kind of be up and running,” she said.

At a meeting earlier this month, the School Board reassigned Wargo to the central office and replaced her with Jennifer Collins effective Aug. 16, Chairwoman Lynn Pardee said. Wargo was scheduled to fill Collins’ previous position as the division’s testing coordinator.

Pardee said she’ll miss Satterwhite and Wargo. “They put in quite a few years here, and they’ve done very well,” she said. “For that, we’re sorry to see them go, and I wish them the best.”

Brown said Satterwhite resigned for personal reasons. Asked why Wargo resigned, Brown said: “I just have a letter that she was submitting her resignation.”

Efforts to reach Satterwhite and Wargo yesterday were unsuccessful.

Satterwhite became King George High School’s principal in 2005 after serving as an assistant principal for a year.

Wargo taught English at King George High School from 1994 until 2003, according to the high school’s website. She returned as an assistant principal in 2005.
