To improve safety. Date published: 12/30/2010
HAMPTON, Va. (AP) - Hampton officials want to convert privately owned land around Langley Air Force Base into public ownership because of safety concerns. The Daily Press reports that the city is looking at 19 undeveloped, commercial and residential parcels. The properties include a trailer park, a concrete business and a storage business Bruce Sturk with the city says some parcels are completely within Langley's clear zone, while others are close to it. He says the city plans to prioritize the properties and look for willing sellers. Condemnation isn't being considered. It hasn't been determined whether the city, state or federal government would assume ownership.
