A 17-year-old Stafford County boy has been charged with displaying a handgun twice during altercations the same day, police said.

One of those incidents took place at Mountain View High School, where the boy is a student, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Bill Kennedy said.

Kennedy said the Sheriff’s Office was called on March 7 regarding an altercation involving several students in the school parking lot.

A school resource officer handled the situation, and an investigation began.

On Monday, Kennedy said, police got information that one of the boys involved in the March 7 incident had brandished a gun. It was also learned that the same boy was involved in a fight in Seven Lakes subdivision later March 7 and displayed a gun then as well, Kennedy said.

The boy was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with brandishing a firearm on school property, brandishing a firearm, assault and disorderly conduct.

He was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Juvenile Detention Center.

His name was not released because he is a juvenile. Kennedy said the investigation is ongoing and more charges are expected.

The gun had not been recovered as of today, Kennedy said.
