SPOTSYLVANIA SCHOOLS Battlefield Elementary The fifth-grade classes participated in National Geographic Kids' Guinness World Record attempt for the Most People Doing Jumping Jacks in a 24-hour period. Their participation helped break the record with 300,265 people. --Sandra Decatur Chancellor Elementary Jeremiah Lehman was the schoolwide winner of the spelling bee, with Jacob Hix as first runner-up. Both students will represent Chancellor Elementary School in the county-wide spelling bee to be held Jan. 24. At the end of 2011, the running club had logged in 2,879 miles. Second-grader Luke Jockin has logged in the most at 55.43 miles. --Amy Clodius Robert E. Wilderness Elementary The winners of the school-wide spelling bee are fifth-graders Jared Wittaker and Taylor Johns. The fifth-grade chorus and first-grade students presented The school collected more than $800 in pennies, which was the most in the county, and donated it to the homeless. A total of 10 bags of new and gently used coats were also donated. In the county's effort to break the world record for "Read for a Reason," the school had the highest turnout, and won 10 Apple iPads from the Spotsylvania Towne Centre. --Jennifer Eckhart
