James R. Douglas, 83, of Stafford County passed away Monday, May 21, 2012, in Glen Allen.

Born in Polk County, Fla., on July 18, 1928, he was the son of the late James Gordon and Louise Gertrude Deadwyler Douglas of Lakeland, Fla., and Stafford.

Mr. Douglas grew up on the family orange grove in Lakeland. He served as a Navy Seabees surveyor and graduated from the University of Florida, Gainesville, as a civil engineer. He worked in the the aerospace industry, contributing significantly to the Mercury and Apollo programs at NASA. Upon retirement, Jim Douglas moved to Stafford to be with family and to pursue his passions of house building and golf.

Uncle Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Jean Douglas Dunning, and is survived by his nieces, nephew, grandnieces and grandnephews. The family held a private remembrance.
