Charles Robert Ayers, 69, of Locust Grove passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012, at his residence.
Mr. Ayers was born Nov. 10, 1942, in Commerce, Ga., the son of the late Charles William and Alma Minish Ayers. Formerly of Tuscaloosa, Ala., he had lived in Lake of the Woods for the past 10 years. He was a retired U.S. Army veteran with more than 29 years of service to our country.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley J. Ayers; his son and his wife, Charles Scott Ayers and Keri of Mechanicsville; his daughter, Stacey McKinney of Locust Grove; his four grandchildren, Cody D. McKinney, Logan McKinney (and their father, Lucas F. McKinney), Megan E. Ayers and Charles B. Ayers. He is also survived by his sister and her husband, Lynda and Don Townley of Dawsonville, Ga.
A funeral will be conducted from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday July 9, at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, 10127 Plank Road, Spotsylvania. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. in Quantico National Cemetery.
