Mary Frances Sullivan Wisnieski, 82, of Spotsylvania County died Thursday, July 12, 2012, at VCU Medical Center surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Stamford, Conn., on June 24, 1930, a daughter of John L. and Theresa DeVecchis Sullivan. Her family moved to Turners Falls, Mass., where she attended school.
In 1948, Mary married William J. Wisnieski of South Deerfield, Mass., where they raised their four children. Upon retirement, Mary and her husband moved to Fredericksburg to be near their children and grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, William; infant son Peter; and brother James Sullivan.
Mary leaves four children, Kathleen Burke and husband Richard of Ashland, Christine Wisnieski of Richmond, Eileen Sullivan of Fredericksburg and William Wisnieski and wife Monica of Hadley, Mass.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother John Sullivan of Northampton, Mass.; sister Diana Roberts of Ukiah, Calif.; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Mary also had many wonderful and caring friends at Asbury Manor in Spotsylvania.
A memorial service will be held at 1:45 p.m. Friday, July 20, at the Asbury Manor Community Center. A Mass will also be celebrated at a later date in South Deerfield, where she will be interred.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to Asbury Manor Community Center, Attn: Joyce Whittenbaugh (President, Tenants Association), 10235 Brittany Commons Blvd., No. 101, Spotsylvania, Va. 22553.
