Police seek those involved in brawl
Date published: 9/8/2012
Fredericksburg police are seeking young people involved in serious fighting early Friday in the parking lot of Walmart in the Central Park shopping area.
The brawl sent one man to the hospital, caused lesser injuries to others and damaged several cars.
Apparently, two groups of young adults and teenagers began fighting shortly after 1 a.m., according to city police spokeswoman Natatia Blesoe.
Bledsoe said baseball bats and a crowbar were used in the fight.
When officers arrived many of those involved had left, police said.
One man, a 25-year-old Spotsylvania County resident, said he and and his friends were hanging out in the parking lot when a fight broke out between his group and another group. This subject's car had been damaged during the altercation and a crowbar was found embedded in the windshield.
Another vehicle was discovered in the parking lot with all of its windows broken.
A 20-year-old Stafford County resident was later found at Mary Washington Hospital with injuries to his head and arms, and cuts and bruising.
Interviewed by police at the hospital, the victim reported that he was at the Walmart with his girlfriend and two other friends and they were attacked in the parking lot by three male subjects, one of whom was armed with the bat, Bledsoe said.
At least a dozen potential suspects have been identified, but police are still gathering information and the investigation is ongoing.
