In November 2002, the Rappahannock Valley Garden Club planted a European horse chestnut tree in Hurkamp Park in commemoration of the Sept. 11, 2001, tragedy. On this year's anniversary of that event, the base of the tree was surrounded by old city cobblestones, and a plaque was placed noting the significance of the tree.
The Rappahannock Valley Garden Club would like to thank Bob Antozzi, James Bell, and the Fredericksburg Department of Parks and Recreation for their support of this project. We hope the public will visit this memorial to remember those who were affected by this tragedy.
