Pit bulls are top dogs

I loved the article in The Free Lance-Star about the pit bull rescue ["Pit bull on receiving end of an attack," Sept. 8]. Thank you so much for that inspiring story.

I, too, had a bit of a "pit bull bias" until I read the book "The Lost Dogs," about Michael Vick's dogs and their rehabilitation.

Even better, my son recently adopted a pit bull/Lab puppy. I drove to West Virginia with him to pick up "Griffin." He and his brothers and sisters (10 of them!) were being fostered by a wonderful woman who took in all 10 when they were just two days old. Because no mother was around, she bottled-fed those 10 puppies every two hours. What a wonderful thing.

It was love at first sight when we met Griffin, and he continues to thrive. My husband and I get to keep him when our son travels and he has become best friends with our 5-year-old German shepherd. He is the most lovable and friendly dog I have ever been around; he loves to cuddle next to you and is constantly giving kisses. It's like he's saying "Thank you for adopting me!" I can't get enough of him.

Thank you, Alex Baliles and Bully Paws Pit Bull Patriots for looking out for these great dogs. You are doing a wonderful thing.
