Boo! Take a walk in the Wicked Woods if you dare.
BY BRIDGET BALCH
You can get into the Halloween spirit early this year--and know that your screams are going to a good cause.
Wicked Woods Haunted Forest, a family-owned business near Lake Anna, will open the season with its third annual charity night on Friday, Sept. 28.
All proceeds from the night will go to support the Fredericksburg SPCA, Spotsylvania Fire Department, A Cat's Friend Inc. cat rescue and North Carolina Autism Foundation.
The Wicked Woods consists of three attractions: the Haunted Forest, the Insanitarium Asylum and its newest addition, Murder Manor. Individually, the attractions are $15, $7 and $7, respectively, but the combo ticket is $25.
Tickets are available for purchase online as well as on-site.
Organizer Erik Seyenga described the experience as intense.
"It's like walking through a live horror movie," said Seyenga.
The scene is set with the help of animatronics, movie-quality sets and props, professional makeup and actors who interact with the audience to make the experience as personal and terrifying as possible.
Due to the horrific nature of the attractions, they are not recommended for children under 13.
This year, the Wicked Woods will be hosting a guest celebrity. Actress Addy Miller of "The Walking Dead" TV series will sign photographs from 6-9 p.m. on Oct. 19 and 20.
The Wicked Woods will be open Fridays and Saturdays from 7-10 p.m. through Oct. 27, as well as Sunday, Oct. 28, but Seyenga said he is hoping that people won't wait until the end of October to come out.
"It doesn't have to be Halloween weekend to get scared," said Seyenga.
