Three teenagers have been charged in Spotsylvania County with a series of thefts and acts of vandalism, including one in which the damage exceeded $50,000, police said.

The boys, two 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old, are charged with 11 counts of larceny and 11 counts of vandalism so far, and the investigation is continuing, Sheriff's Capt. Mike Harvey said.

Most of the charges are connected to car break-ins in the Stoneybrooke subdivision, where the boys live.

Harvey said the boys' alleged five-month crime spree began with vandalism at the Luck Stone Quarry, where someone caused more than $50,000 worth of damage by breaking windows and destroying vehicles.

The other cases involve incidents such as breaking vehicle windows and stealing items from the vehicles, Harvey said. There is no evidence that the teens went into any houses.

Detectives Jim Lay and Kelly Mills have been investigating about 25 different reports from the subdivision and finally got enough evidence to identify and charge the teens, Harvey said.

Deputies and residents have assisted in the ongoing probe, Harvey said.

Anyone with information about similar incidents in that area is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 540/582-7115 or Crime Solvers at 540/582-5822.
