1 KILLED, 1 HURT
One man was killed in a head-on collision on U.S. 17 near Stafford Lakes Parkway Thursday, state police said.
Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said a 1999 Ford F-350 pickup was traveling north on U.S. 17 around 4:35 p.m. when, according to witnesses, it suddenly sped up and crossed into the southbound lanes and struck a 2003 Ford F-350 pickup head-on.
The driver of the 2003 truck was taken to Mary Washington Hospital, where he later died, Geller said. His name was not released: State police were in the process of notifying his next of kin last night.
The driver of the 1999 truck, Frederick C. Frostick III, 23, of Fredericksburg, was also taken to Mary Washington Hospital, where he was treated and released, Geller said. Frostick was charged with involuntary manslaughter, she said.
Geller said speed was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
