Robert D. Self

Robert "Bob" Donald Self, 78, of Stafford County died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012 at Mary Washington Hospital.

Mr. Self was a graduate of James Monroe High School. He worked for VDOT until entering the U.S. Army. He retired from the Department of the Navy at Quantico in September 1996. He was a lifelong member of Ramoth Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School superintendent and president of the Baptist Men. He also taught the Adult Men's Sunday school class, and maintained the church cemetery records for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Barbara J. Self; brother H. Lowell Self and wife Lillian of Stafford; his niece and sister in Christ, Sharon Leake of Winchester; great-niece, Heather; and great-nephew, Scott and his daughter, Ashleigh.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1 at Ramoth Baptist Church, with the Rev. Brent Vickery and the Rev. Paige Bowman officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
