The victim in Thursday's fatal crash in Stafford County has been identified as 42-year-old Brandon D. Huffman of King George.

The accident happened on on U.S. 17 near Stafford Lakes Parkway around 4:35 p.m. Thursday.

According to Virginia State Police spokesperson Corinne Geller, a 1999 Ford F-350 pickup truck was traveling north on U.S. 17 when, according to witnesses, it suddenly sped up and crossed into the southbound lanes.

The pickup truck, driving the wrong way in the southbound lanes, struck a 2003 Ford F-350 pickup truck head on, Geller said.

Huffman, the driver of the 2003 F-350, was transported to Mary Washington Hospital, where he died, Geller said.

The driver of the 1999 F-350, Frederick C. Frostick III, 23, of Fredericksburg, was also transported to Mary Washington Hospital. He was treated and released, Geller said.

Frostick is charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Geller said speed was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
