The birds and the bees coexist in our backyard
A recent letter [Bees vs. hummingbirds," Sept. 21] stated that bees within the city limits would find the sugar water in hummingbird feeders and prevent the hummingbirds from feeding. We have two beehives and hummingbird feeders. I have never seen honeybees on our feeders.
It is usually yellow jackets and butterflies that go to the feeders. There are so many flowers around that the bees don't seem to be attracted to our hummingbird feeders. It has never been a problem for us.
We would hate to think that we had to give up feeding the hummingbirds just because we had beehives.
